Book the boats early
Most of what you'd reserve ahead is on the water and depends on the weather, so book early in your stay and leave room to change the day. Trips leave from different places, so find your port first.
Mahón. One-hour harbour trips with underwater viewing are the short option, and they suit children or a poor day for swimming. There's also a day cruise along the east coast.
South coast. This is cove country, with traditional boats and snorkelling, and coves-and-beaches trips with optional paella. Choose this side for a full day at sea.
Which base
Mahón is in the east, Ciutadella in the west, and the island is long and narrow. Sleep near the half that interests you most and move the car as little as you can.
La Mola and days on land
La Mola Fortress, at the mouth of Mahón harbour, is the ticket that makes most sense if military history interests you. Hours are short in November, February and March, and it's closed in January and from 9 December. Other fortresses are in castles and cathedrals.
For something calmer, there's the Subaida cheese farm, a family winery in Ciutadella and horse rides along the coast. From Mallorca, the day trip from Alcúdia saves organising the ferry, though it leaves little spare time.

One day for Mahón, its harbour and La Mola. Another for Ciutadella. The third on a boat along the southern coves.
What can I do in Menorca with kids?
The one-hour Mahón harbour trips with underwater viewing are the easy pick, and they also work on a poor day for swimming.
How much is La Mola Fortress?
€8.25 general. Over-65s, pensioners, ages 12 to 16 and Menorca residents pay €5.75. Ages 6 to 11 pay €4.25. Under-6s are free.
Is La Mola open in winter?
It's closed in January and from 9 December. In February, March and November it opens 10:00–14:00, closed on Mondays.
