Check Gaztelugatxe first

This is the plan most likely to leave you outside. It's free, but on controlled-access days you need a free online ticket, with a limit of 1,462 people a day, and the provincial council's calendar shows which days. Tours often sell the place as Dragonstone. If you drive, parking is tight: the two public car parks have 79 spaces.

The Guggenheim has no fixed price, so check your date. The joint ticket with the Fine Arts Museum gives you 4 days to reach the second museum.

One day or two

One day: the Guggenheim in the morning, the riverside in the afternoon and the Casco Viejo, the old town, to finish. To see it from the water, there's a one-hour boat tour or a two-hour cruise to Portugalete.

Two days: give the second to the coast. Excursions to Gaztelugatxe, Bermeo, Mundaka and Gernika spare you the driving, and some carry on to San Sebastián or the Cantabrian coast.

Athletic Club, wet days and views

For Athletic Club fans, the San Mamés museum and tour with audio guide is time well spent, and match tickets are on sale too. If it rains, try Itsasmuseum. For views, one walking tour adds the cable car, though it runs in Spanish.

The Guggenheim in the morning, a walk along the river and the old town in the afternoon. Football fans can swap part of that for the Athletic Club museum and tour.

What should I do with a second day in Bilbao?

Head for the coast. Gaztelugatxe, Bermeo, Mundaka and Gernika all fit into one excursion from the city.

How much are Guggenheim Bilbao tickets?

The adult price changes with the date. The official site showed €12 on 4 November 2026, and archived copies from the same year show €15 and €18.

Do I need to book San Juan de Gaztelugatxe?

Only on controlled-access days, with a free online ticket. On other days access is open. There's a limit of 1,462 people a day.

Are there walking tours in Bilbao?

Yes, through the old town and modern Bilbao. Check the listing for what the seller charges before you book.
