Caminito before everything

Book the Caminito del Rey first. The official site releases dates in batches and gives no refunds. Fix that date, then plan the rest. Without a car it works better on one of the day trips, as do Ronda, Granada and Gibraltar.

The centre in a day

The Alcazaba costs €7, the Roman Theatre beside it is free, and the Museo Picasso is €13, low enough to pay for each separately. On a Sunday, run it in this order: the theatre in the morning, because it closes at 16:00, the Alcazaba from 14:00, and Picasso in its last two hours. On a weekday you needn't do the maths, but don't count on the theatre on a Monday.

The coast, town by town

Each area needs its own day. Benalmádena has Sea Life and Selwo Marina plus the cable car. Fuengirola has Bioparc. Cercanías local trains link both towns with Málaga. East of the city, the Caves of Nerja and Frigiliana work better on a tour or by car. The SelwoPack, from €48.90 online, combines Selwo Aventura, Selwo Marina and the cable car, to use when you like until the end of the season.
