Book in this order

  1. Teide cable car. This is the one thing with paperwork. If you want the summit, get the permit before buying anything else.
  2. Parks. The Twin Ticket for Loro Parque and Siam Park runs for 15 days from your first visit, so you can move days around the weather.
  3. Whales and dolphins. Leave this until last and pick a boat flying the "Barco azul" flag.

South one day, north another

Tenerife is easy to misjudge on a map. Stay in Costa Adeje or Las Américas and you have Siam Park, Aqualand and the boats on your doorstep. The north is a separate day out: Loro Parque in Puerto de la Cruz, La Laguna, and Santa Cruz with its Palmetum. Don't try to fit both ends into one afternoon.

No car, or a grey day

Without a car, the transfer matters more than the ticket. There are Loro Parque and Siam Park combos with transfers, and Teide tours with transport. With a car, buy the ticket alone.

On a cloudy day, try the Teide Observatory, the Pyramids of Güímar or a tasting at Bodegas Monje. Each takes a few hours. Longer outings are under day trips.

Frequently asked questions

What should I book first in Tenerife?

Mount Teide. Cable car tickets are dated, and if you want to stand on the summit, the free National Park permit has to be requested well in advance.

Which water park should I choose in Tenerife?

Siam Park or Aqualand, both in Costa Adeje. Aqualand also has a dolphinarium, with a daily show at 15:30.

Is the Twin Ticket worth it?

If you're going to both Loro Parque and Siam Park, yes. It's valid for 15 days from your first visit, so the two parks don't have to fall on consecutive days.

What is there to do in Tenerife South?

Siam Park, Aqualand and the boats are all close to Costa Adeje and Las Américas. Jungle Park in Arona runs a free bus from Costa Adeje, Playa de las Américas and Los Cristianos.

What is there to do in the north of Tenerife?

Loro Parque in Puerto de la Cruz, La Laguna, and Santa Cruz with its Palmetum. From Costa Adeje, give it the whole day.

What can you do in Tenerife with kids?

The parks are the easy answer: Siam Park, Aqualand, Loro Parque, where under-3s go free, and Jungle Park, where you can bring your own food and drink as long as there's no glass.
