Short trips and sunset boats

If you're staying in the west, San Antonio has the best short option: trips around Cala Bassa, Cala Conta, Cala Salada and Cala Gració, many at sunset. Cave and snorkelling trips take half a day, with a kayak or paddleboard and a quieter feel.

Formentera: ferry or cruise

You're buying two different things. The scheduled ferry leaves you on Formentera: you come and go as you like and hire a bike or scooter. Choose it if you want to set foot on the island. The cruise is a day on board with swim stops, food and drinks. You see Formentera from the water, and sometimes not much more.

Before paying for a cruise, check the listing for your time ashore. Some only anchor offshore, others include free time or a bike.

Families or a party crowd

With children, avoid boats with music and an open bar, and look at snorkelling trips and sailing catamarans. With a group out for a good time, pick the party boats.
