Buy from the Patronato if it has your date

The Patronato de la Alhambra y Generalife runs the monument and sells at the official price, online and by phone, until 23:59 the day before. It calls its website the only official, guaranteed channel. If your date is there and you need nothing else, buy there. A seller makes sense for a guide, or for an audio guide while the official one is unavailable.

Check the ticket covers the Nasrid Palaces

The official general ticket, €22.27, covers the Palaces, Alcazaba, Generalife and gardens. The gardens ticket, €12.73, covers the same minus the Palaces. The lowest price on the ticket cards above does not include the Nasrid Palaces, so read before you pay.

The Palaces admit 300 people every half hour, and only at the time printed on your ticket. Arrive late and you lose that part of the visit. Allow about 3 hours in all.

Named tickets: bring your original ID

Tickets are named, personal and non-transferable, and you need your original ID. Enter names exactly as they appear on it, because there are no date or time changes, and refunds only if the Patronato is at fault. Backpacks or bags over 40 × 40 cm aren't allowed in.

Sold out on your date

The Patronato asks you to buy in advance, because some days show no tickets left. Your options then:

  • Official site. The Patronato can release unused tickets, and Turismo de Granada says some last-minute tickets may go on sale there between 20:00 and 22:00.
  • Granada Card. It has a reserved allocation. The 72- and 48-hour cards include the general ticket, the 24-hour card the night visit to the Palaces, and the Jardines card the gardens. The date is set at purchase and can't change.
  • Palaces at night. 15 October to 31 March, Friday and Saturday 20:00–21:30. Otherwise Tuesday to Saturday 22:00–23:30.
  • Gardens ticket. Everything except the Palaces.
  • Ticket office. Same day only, subject to availability, up to two hours before the Palaces visit. Turismo de Granada doesn't recommend it.

Turismo de Granada also warns of tours sold without places and then cancelled, and says not to buy them when the official site is sold out. Before paying, check that the title says Nasrid Palaces and how late you can cancel.

Excellent guide with many stories! Sometimes more time needed to take photos and one gets easily lost with so many other groups around, perhaps the guide should wear some very brightly coloured shirt or jacket and the radio trasmitters should emit a warning signal once it is say 40meters away from the guide ...

Our guide Borja was the best - born and raised in Granada with a passion for, and a wealth of information about Alhambra and the surrounds. I knoq for a fact that if we had tried to do it ourselves we would have spent a whole day there and not really learnt much about it. The tour was comprehensive of the whole palace and surrounds and went for 2.5 hours, and we learnt so much which made it an amazing experience.

The Alhambra is just amazing; it was the highlight of our Andalusia trip. Our guide, Tania, and the local guide were very friendly and professional. They gave us a lot of precious informations.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I buy official Alhambra tickets?

From the Patronato de la Alhambra y Generalife: on its website, by phone or at its ticket machines, until 23:59 the day before. It calls its website the only official, guaranteed channel, and the one that always has the official price.

How much are Alhambra tickets?

On the official site, €22.27 for the general ticket with the Nasrid Palaces and €12.73 for the gardens ticket without them. The night visit to the Palaces is also €12.73.

Are Alhambra tickets named, and do I need ID?

Yes. Tickets are personal and non-transferable, and you must bring your original ID.

What can I do if the Alhambra is sold out?

Keep checking the official site in the days before, look at the Granada Card, which has its own allocation, and consider the night visit or the gardens ticket. The same-day ticket office is the last resort.

Is there a discount for children or seniors?

Under 12s don't pay, but their ticket must be in the same purchase as the adults'. Ages 12–15 pay the €14 reduced rate, before the web fee. The over-65 rate is for EU citizens only, so UK, US, Canadian and Australian seniors don't get it.

Can I see any of the Alhambra without a ticket?

Yes. The Palacio de Carlos V and the Alhambra Museum are free to enter, and Torres Bermejas and the Silla del Moro open free at weekends.
