Fix the date, then the show time

There are three possible times: 19:00, 21:15 and 22:30. Not all run each night and they vary by date, so fix the date before planning dinner.

Dinner makes it 120 minutes in all. If you've already eaten in the Albaicín, the drink is enough. Transport options collect you by bus and add a walk and a view of the lit-up Alhambra, but they don't run every day.

A cave show, and a big one

Los Tarantos is a family tablao (flamenco venue) founded in 1972, in three caves on Camino del Sacromonte. What you see is zambra gitana: 60 minutes with 10 to 12 artists. Capacity is around 190, so don't picture a cave with a few chairs.

Getting there, and cancelling

Car access to the neighbourhood is restricted and the C34 bus is the recommended way in. For the last show, work out your way back first.

The venue refunds you if you cancel with 36 hours' notice; each seller has its own terms. If Los Tarantos doesn't fit, Zincalé, Los Amayas and Los Parrones are other caves. More under flamenco shows in Spain.

    The cave made this feel authentic and the performers took it very seriously. The music and dancing was great. The tiny chairs were a uncomfortable but manageable for one hour - but maybe not if you have mobility issues. I wish they had an emcee to explain more about the performers. Are they related? How long have they been dancing? What is thier family history? Are they actually Roma people?
