Two separate tickets

The cable car gets you up the hill, not through the gate. The castle says so plainly: the fare doesn't include admission. That's €19 return at the ticket office or €17.10 online, then €12 for the castle. It leaves from Avinguda de Miramar and runs straight up to the castle. On the way down you can stop at the Mirador de l'Alcalde if you like.

There's a second official warning, on castle entry. The castle sells online only on its own website and says it has no agreement with third-party companies to sell tickets. So for a plain castle ticket, buy there. The cards on this page are for the cable car or tours. If one promises castle entry, check exactly what it includes. Purchases aren't refundable, except in proven cases of force majeure.

Free Sundays and the English tour

Every Sunday from 15:00 is free, and the first Sunday of the month is free all day. Winter closing is 18:00, with ticket offices until 17:30, so don't arrive late. Under-16s never pay, and the Barcelona Card includes entry.

Guided tours run at weekends and on public holidays: 13:00 in English, 15:30 in Spanish, 16:30 in Catalan. They cost €4 on free-entry days. On an ordinary Sunday the English tour starts before free entry does.

Getting up without the cable car

Bus 150 leaves from Reina Maria Cristina and reaches the castle in about 20 minutes from Plaça d'Espanya. Or take the funicular and walk 20 to 25 minutes from its station, a constant climb with some steep stretches.
