Free Mondays cover the collection only

On Mondays the museum opens only 12:00–16:00, and those hours are free for the permanent collection, with no ticket needed. If the collection is what you came for and Monday fits, keep the €14. The Paseo del Arte pass won't add up if you plan to use that free Monday: it's €32.80 for the Thyssen, the Prado and the Reina Sofía, against €41 bought singly.

Free Saturday nights

Saturdays 21:00–23:00 do the same for another part of the building. The temporary exhibitions on the ground floor and floor -1 are free until capacity is reached, and when the ground floor has no exhibition the Carmen Thyssen Collection opens instead.

Tuesday to Sunday: what €14 buys

Everything at once: the permanent collection, the Carmen Thyssen Collection and that day's temporary exhibitions. The ticket works at any hour of the day, except for the ground-floor exhibition, which has limited capacity and a reserved time. According to the museum, the quietest stretch is 14:00 to 16:00.

Among the tickets on this page, the one naming the temporary exhibition is the most complete. The ticket on the official site already includes all of it.

Students pay here

Unlike at the Prado, students pay €10, the same as over-65s and pensioners. Free entry goes to under-18s, Carné Joven (youth card) holders, 18 to 25-year-olds with Madrid's Abono de Transporte Joven travel pass, working teachers, unemployed people and people with a disability of 33% or more. A group of seven or more pays €12 each.

Really enjoyed the temporary exhibits/ Dutch paintings/ Dali/ Kenny Scharf. Admired a lot of the American artist that are part of the permanent collection. The staff were very helpful for a non Spanish speaker like myself. It's a beautiful building and setting. Thank you.

we were at the entrance before 10;00 am. as soon as the museum open we were able to get in with tickets bought from Headout and gain a lot of time. so, no crowd as majority of guests were on line to purchase tickets. we enjoyed the museum and spend more time watching beautiful paintings as well as Rodin's pieces

The museum itself is excellent. However we could have done with a little help with the audio guide at the start. We went on the audio highlights tour and it just took us a little while to understand where paintings were etc.

Easy to get into thyssen. They scanned the bar code. Was surprised to have to queue at the Prado to get a ticket. I assumed when I booked this I would avoid a ticket line. Both museums excellent.

Luis was so enthusiastic about his knowledge of the art. Only thought was make it a more balanced tour of the museum. Equal time to all the collections.

We have booked a guided visit on our first day in Madrid. Everything went smoothly. Our guide made the visit enjoyable and we learnt a lot. She had answer to all our questions.
